ELPIS
theology periodical of the Orthodox Theology Chair
University in Bialystok
 
    On the interwar time, the Orthodox Theologian Study Warsaw University published theology periodical "Elpis" (greek: Hope), which present of the scientific work of a professors and workers of the Theology Study. On years 1926-1939 was published 13 books of this periodical. The outbreak of Second World War interrupted activity of the Theologian Study and also break off publishing of the periodical. Only with creating Orthodox Theology Chair on the University in Bialystok was occured possible renewed publishing of the theology periodical, known in interwar period. First number of the renewed "Elpis" published in year 1999. Referring to "Elpis" from interwar period used double numeration.
 
    In first number (14th number) of "Elpis" published in 1999, contained materials about inauguration of the activity of the Orthodox Theology Chair: speech of His Eminence Metropolitan prof. Sawa at the inauguration ceremony, bibliography of the periodical "Elpis" from years 1926-1937 and materials from conference organized by Theology Chair in June 1999 "Orthodox church in the Polish history".
     Second number (15th number) of the periodical "Elpis" published in year 2000. In this number published materials from first celebration of the feast of chair patrons (12.02.2000), materials from conference of the Warsaw-Bielsk Diocese clergy and materials from conference "Jesus Christ yesterday, today and on centurys", which the chair organized in May 2000.
     Third issue (16th number) of "Elpis" published on turn of the year 2000/2001, contained catalogue of the church and the clergy of the Warsaw-Bielsk Diocese. His author is father Ph.D. Gregory Sosna.
     Fourth issue (17th number), published in second half of year 2001, contained materials from ceremony of delivered of diploma of the Doctor Honoris Causa University in Bialystok to His Eminence prof. SAWA, Orthodox Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland, and also chairman of the Orthodox Theology Chair University in Bialystok, in June 2001, and papers of Orthodox Theology Chair's workers, and also speeches from second celebration of the feast of chair patrons (12.02.2001), at day of the Three Holy Hierachs (Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, John Chrysostom).
     Fifth issue (18th number), published in finish of year 2001, contained materials from conference "Mother of God in theology and in cult of Orthodoxy", which the chair organized in June 2001.
     6th number (19), published in finish of year 2002, contained materials from conference "Spirituality of the Christian East and West" and "Holy Eucharist in the life of Orthodox christian", which the chair organized in 2002.
     7th number (20-21), published in finish of year 2003, contained materials from conferences: Theological conference on the Great Lent theme and conference "Orthodox eclezjology", which the chair organized in 2003, and also other materials (lecture of His Eminence Christodulos, Archbishop Aten and all Greece, speaking in Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw).
