of the Orthodox Theology Chair

    The Orthodox Theology Chair started on March 5, 1999, after festive inauguration. In June 1999, the chair organized scientific conference „Orthodox church in the Polish history”. In this year published first issue of the scientific periodical „Elpis” (it is continuation of the periodical of Orthodox Theology Study Warsaw University published in years 1926-1937 under the same title), which was contain reports delivered on this conference. The Chair organized I edition of the Orthodox Culture Forum, in this year too (this is an opened cycle of the lectures, organized ones in month, to popularization Orthodox religion, culture and art).
    In 1999/2000 academic year there was be held a course for religion lecturers. On February 12, 2000, the chair first celebrated patronal feast (on day of the Three Holy Hierarchs). The chair organized in June 2000 scientific conference to assciate with Jubilee 2000 years of the christianity: „Jesus Christ yesterday, today and on centurys”. Materials from this conference was published in second issue of Elpis, published in the same year.
    In 2000/2001 academic year there was be held a Orthodox theology study. Next issue of Elpis published on turn of the year 2000/2001, contained catalogue of the church and the clergy. On February 12, 2001, the chair second year celebrated patronal feast. In June 2001 Chair was organized conference „Mother of the God in theology and in cult of Orthodoxy”. On day 8.06.2001 was be held ceremony of delivered of diploma of the Doctor Honoris Causa University in Bialystok to His Eminence prof. SAWA, Orthodox Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland, and also chairman of the Orthodox Theology Chair University in Bialystok. The materials from this ceremony published in fourth issue of Elpis (published in second half of year 2001). In this year published fiveth issue of Elpis, with materials from scientific conference in June month.
    In 2001/2002 academic year didactic no organized. The Chair co-organized theological symposium „Spirituality of the Christian East and West”, on February month. On February 12, 2002, the chair third year celebrated patronal feast (on day of the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom). Traditionally, in the June month, a chair organized scientific conference „Holy Eucharist in the life of Orthodox Christian”. The materials from this two conferences published in sixth issue of Elpis (published in second half of year 2002).
    In 2002/2003 academic year didactic no organized. On February 12, 2003, the chair fourth year celebrated patronal feast (on day of the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom). On February, the Chair organized theological conference on the Great Lent theme. On May month, the Chair was be co-organized international scientific conference „Christian spiritual heritage of the Slavonic nations - literature, culture, language”. And also yearly, Chair organized in May month, scientific conference „Orthodox eclezjology”.
    In 2003/2004 academic year didactic no organized. The materials from this conferences published in seventh issue of Elpis (published in second half of year 2003). On February 12, 2004, the chair fiveth year celebrated patronal feast (on day of the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom). Commontly, the Orthodox Theology Chair of University in Bialystok, is celebrating 5 years anniversary of his existence (Orthodox Theology Chair created on March 5, 1999, by virtue of resolution of the Senat of University in Bialystok). On this day, too, Orthodox Theology Chair, and also Bioetics and Philosophian Antropology Chair of University in Bialystok, was organized scientific conference on theme „Contemporary threats of the human person”.

    In 2004/2005 academic year didactic no organized. The materials from this conferences published in seventh issue of Elpis (published in second half of year 2004). On February 12, 2005, the chair sixteth year celebrated patronal feast (on day of the Three Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom).
